Born to a Kuwaiti father and Syrian mother, Dr Shurooq Amin is an Anglophone poet, a contemporary artist, a certified interior decorator and a professor at Kuwait University.

The distinctive quality of her paintings is perhaps on her raw exploration of modern Arabian Gulf society, metaphorically stripped to reveal the truth. Her images do not profess to demean or criticise, nor to glorify or exaggerate. The images do tend to be subtly satirical, however, in juxtaposing traditional elements with contemporary ones. Her technique of synthesis is exemplified in her depiction of the two opposing concepts of society girls, one in which the girls are in their embellished and fashionable state and the other, a more vulnerable and unrefined state, a state that perhaps is not ever revealed to society.

She was represented by Lahd Gallery for the first time as part of a group exhibition in The Gulf Re-Veiled, celebrating the gallery’s opening in London in 2010 and again in 2011 in a solo exhibition featuring SHOT! The Untold Truth of Society Girls propelling her therefore in the London Art scene.

She is now represented by Ayyam Gallery.
