Since the beginning of time, we have lived in a world where expressing female beauty is considered a male prerogative. Male artists have carved our perception of the female form throughout history in the same way fashion defines women’s perceptions of their own selves in our current society.
Lahd Gallery and Roberta Moore Contemporary are bringing together two important contemporary artists, Suhair Sibai and Iva Troj to meet for the first time, in a joint exhibition that reveals the true story through their new works. Both artists offer different perspectives on the world, through female eyes. Sibai focuses more on expression, whereas Troj examines the female form. Their foci are different, yet they come together to offer viewers a more complete picture of femininity.
In her work, Troj focuses on freedom of expression and portrays beauty as a luminous aspect of the female form, much in the same way the renaissance artists did while Sibai focuses on the more subtle nature of female beauty, the things that aren’t immediately visible to the eye. In many ways, you could say that these two female artists tackle the A to Z of female beauty!
