Anas Homsi

Anas Homsi was born in Syria in 1987 and grew up in the city of Damascus. After having a passion for art from a young age, he went on to study and graduate from the faculty of Fine Arts in Damascus. Whereas many artists draw inspiration from their surroundings, Homsi’s paintings communicate little sense of specific place or time. Instead he tries to capture the atmosphere of a particular memory, rather than the moment itself.

From studying Homsi’s artwork, you can easily see the energy and emotion that has gone into every gestural brush stroke. Whilst every painting represents a different emotion or atmosphere, the use of vibrant colours is prominent throughout. It is the use of these warm, luminous colours and impressive hues that draws in the audience and gives them an insight into his soul. One of the most beautiful aspects of Anas Homsi’s paintings is that they are left to your own interpretation. Whilst giving you a window into his imagination at a time, Homsi leaves it up to the audience to engage with the paintings and draw their own thoughts and feelings from them.

Despite being a relatively young artist, Anas Homsi has sold out in 2 months with Lahd Gallery to an international audience. He has participated in several collective and solo exhibitions, most recently at Art16 in Trips to Colourful Thoughts, Le Salon de Lahd in 2015, Human Suffering at Times of Crisis in London, UK, and at the Singapore Art Fair in 2014. He has also taken part in numerous workshops in Lebanon and is a member of the Syrian Plastic Artists’ Union.
